Varicose veins

Varicose veins are swollen, ‘bulging’ veins that are visible under the skin of the legs.

They are common in pregnancy, when hormonal and physical changes put the veins under pressure. Their appearance can also be an early sign of an underlying problem with the veins of the legs.
